METHODS OF NONLINEAR DIELECTRIC PROPERTIES MEASUREMENT OF FERROELECTRIC LIQUID CRYSTALS

The existing methods of nonlinear dielectric properties measuring of ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLC) are analyzed. It is shown that the given methods do not allow to conduct measurements of sufficient accuracy due to the existing active component of conductivity which is caused by the influence of own or purposefully introduced impurities. An alternative method for investigating the nonlinear dielectric properties of FLC with the help of analysis of the temperature dependence of conductivity on alternating current is proposed. The difference of this method of measurement from other methods is that the value of the jump of ΔσAC conductivity on the alternating current in the transition from the cholesteric to the smectic phases of the FLC is analyzed. It is shown that ΔσAC is included as one of the constituent elements of the coefficient corresponding to the quadratic field of the polarization term
